The first weekend of Rock in Rio USA were certainly a one for the record books – offering rock heavyweights like Metallica, No Doubt and Linkin Park.
The excitement wasn’t just limited to the big stages either – fun and entertainment was found throughout the all new MGM Festival grounds with zip-lines, a Ferris wheel and innovative “Rock Street” areas where other acts and performers entertained thousands.
Cirque Du Soleil opened up our Main Stage with an exclusive one-time-only performance in front of an adoring crowd. Stilt-walking creatures, electric violinists, and a Mohawk-clad acrobat who hung upside-down from the rafters were just some of the things that our fans got a chance to witness. It was the perfect way to bring some more Las Vegas culture to the party.
Fans moved back and forth between the Main Stage and the Evolution Stage to watch all different kinds of rock music. Saints of Valory, Theophilus London, Smallpools, Gary Clark Jr, The Pretty Reckless, and Foster The People each have different energies, but they all proved that they belong in the City of Rock.
Maná might have had the fireworks, but it was No Doubt‘s explosive closing set that really brought the crowd to its feet. Gwen Stefani led the band through a career-spanning set, with hits stretching all the way back to their breakthrough album Tragic Kingdom, which celebrates its 20th anniversary year.
